The women in Rwanda’s rural villages are experts in traditional cultural practices and homesteading where locally they are known as Umutima wa Murugo (Heart of the Home). Yet families in rural communities typically live in extreme poverty as most have had few opportunities to share their talents and develop income. Muhasuka Cultural Centre creates a space for cultural exchange and skills development where visitors are welcomed to participate in cultural dance and traditions. Through Muhasuka, local women are empowered to share their knowledge and crafts with the world while providing for their families.
